GUILFORD, VT-George J. Butterfield, 84, of East Mountain Rd., died Wednesday (6/13/12) at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Guilford, VT on January 11, 1928 the son of Lawrence and Catherine (Hennessy) Butterfield.

He attended local schools in Guilford and Brattleboro and was a graduate of St. Michael's High School. He continued his education at Smith Vocational School in Northampton.

George was a plant engineer at the former Champion International Packaging Company in Chicopee for over 25 years before retiring in 1986.

He enjoyed chain saw carving, whittling and hunting. George was known as a "Jack of all trades".

Among his survivors he leaves his wife of 21 years, the former Susan M. (Cote) Lake Butterfield, five daughters, Catherine M. Butterfield of Greenfield, Debra M. Kozlakowski and her husband Joseph of Guilford, Doreen M. Breed and her husband Jon of Wales, MA, Cindy M. Molitoris of Guilford, Linda A. Shedd and her husband Robert of Bernardston, two sons, James E. Lake and his wife Louisa of Charleston, SC, and John E. Lake and his wife Doris of Orange, MA, a son- in-law, Steve Molitoris of Guilford, 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, Lawrence Butterfield of Warwick, RI and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson Anthony Roy in 2010.

Funeral services will be Saturday morning (6/16) at 9:15am at Kostanski Funeral Home 220 Federal St. in Greenfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am at Holy Trinity Church 133 Main St. in Greenfield with the Monsignor Ronald G. Yargeau officiating and Rev. Timothy J. Campoli and Rev. Tomasz J. Gorny, co-concelebrating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be tonight (6/15) from 5-7pm at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Church Memorial Fund 133 Main St., Greenfield, MA 01301.
