TURNERS FALLS-Henry E. "Spike" Mleczko, 80, of K St., died Saturday (4/21/12) at the Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.
He was born on July 31, 1931 in Turners Falls, the son of Frank and Aniela (Kopacz) Mleczko. He attended local schools in Turners Falls and was a graduate of Turners Falls High School class of 1949.
He was a Korean War US Army Veteran.
Spike worked for the State of Massachusetts as a surveyor for several years before going to work at Montague Machine. He was employed for 23 years before retiring in 1996. He was a member of the company golf team.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Czestochowa Church and an associate member of St. Stanislaus and St. Kazimierz societies. Spike was an avid golfer, loyal Yankee's fan and enjoyed watching all sports. He also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Among his survivors he leaves three sisters, Mary Mleczko of Turners Falls, Helen Kopec of Roslindale, MA and Blanche Currie of Granby, MA, a brother, Chester Mleczko and his wife Josey of South Deerfield, several nieces and nephews and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
Five brothers predeceased him, Joseph, Frank, Stanley, John and Edward.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Saturday (4/28) at 9:30am at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church 84 K St. in Turners Falls with the Rev. Charles J. DiMascola, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 8:15-9:15 at the Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square in Turners Falls.
