WINCHESTER, N.H. — Paul J. Gibbs, 85, of Winchester, formerly of West Deerfield, Mass., died Wednesday (10-26-11) at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born in West Deerfield on May 6, 1926, the son of Peter and Mary (Markowski) Gibbs. He was a graduate of Deerfield (Mass.) High School and had been a resident of West Deerfield prior to moving to Winchester in 2003.
Paul was employed at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the maintenance department for 15 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Greenfield, Mass., for 49 years.
Paul was very proud of his family's accomplishments. Also, he enjoyed gardening and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Muriel A. Graves, on Jan. 21, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Paela Gibbs Rodner and her husband Scott of Agoura Hills, Calif.; three grandchildren, Josh, Evan and Hannah Rodner; a brother, Stanley Gibbs of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Ostrowski and Mary Sokoloski, both of Greenfield, and several nieces and nephews.
His partner was Pat Knight.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, 133 Main St., Greenfield, with the Rev. Tomasz Gorny, parochial vicar, officiating. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
A calling hour will be Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield.
