Mary A. Pekarski
SOUTH DEERFIELD -- Mary A. (Maiewski) Pekarski, 91, of Conway Road passed away Thursday (11-15-07) at the home of her daughter, Helen Magee, of Groton.
She was born in Whately on July 2, 1916, the daughter of Zigmont and Bronislawa (Wasilewski) Maiewski. She attended local schools in Whately and had been a resident of South Deerfield for 65 years.
Mary was married to the late T. Walter Pekarski on Oct. 30, 1938 in Holy Name of Jesus Church in South Deerfield. He predeceased her on April 14, 1992.
She and her late husband founded Pekarski Sausage in 1948, which is still currently operated by the family.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church.
Survivors include her children, Estelle M. Yokubaitis of Sunderland, Walter Piekarski and John Pekarski, both of South Deerfield, and Helen Magee of Groton; her sisters, Sophie Procon of Northampton, Jennie Siwy of Easthampton and Jessie Barsh of Northampton, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jessie Britt of South Deerfield and Wanda Tenney of West Swanzey, N.H., as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter Majewski and Benny Maiewski.
Services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, followed by a Requiem Mass at 10 in Holy Name of Jesus Church, South Deerfield, with the Rev. Randolph Calvo, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
