Turners Falls-William "Bill" J. Lynch, 76, of Turners Falls Rd., died Friday Feb. 24, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after a brief illness.

He was born in Greenfield on June 16, 1935 the son of John and Margaret (Currie) Lynch.

Bill graduated from Turners Falls High School Class of 1954.

He was an U.S. Army veteran attaining the rank of Specialist Third Class. He was honorably discharged.

Bill spent a lifetime in the construction business having worked for Warner Brothers Construction and McCord Pipeline as an expediter for many years.

He made lifelong friendships with those he worked with and with his quick wit and humor he will be remembered by all who knew him.

Bill was a sports and history buff and an avid Yankees fan. He was also a life member of the Greenfield Lodge of Elks #1296.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years the former Joyce Hassan, two daughters, Sheryl Sokoloski and her husband Charles of Turners Falls, and Sheena Chadwick and her husband James of Waterbury, VT., a sister Kathleen McCord and his brother in-law Buddy of Turners Falls, four granddaughters, Heather Shlosher of Keene, NH., Charlene Williams of Greenfield, Dawn Wimble-Chadwick of Waterbury, VT., and Jennifer Dansereau of Franklin,VT., five great grandchildren, two nieces Michele McCord of Concord, NH., and Lesley Cogswell and her husband Kyle of Turners Falls, a nephew, Ryan McCord of Turners Falls, three great nephews, and three aunts, Kathleen Hallaran of Greenfield, Blanche Currie of Granby and Eileen MacKinnon of Turners Falls. Bill also leaves several cousins.

Funeral services will be Tuesday Feb. 28, 2012 at 9:15 am at the Kostanski Funeral Home 1 Kostanski Square followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church, 90 Seventh St. with the Rev. Stanley J. Aksamit Pastor officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will Monday from 5-8 pm at the funeral home.
