Paul F. Chevalier
GREENFIELD — Paul “Chevy” F. Chevalier, 76, of Beacon Street, died Monday (7-4-11) at home following a brief period of failing health.
He was born in Greenfield on June 15, 1935, the son of E. Pete and Evelyn (Koch) Chevalier.
He attended Holy Trinity Parochial School and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1953. Also, he graduated from the Franklin Technical School in Boston. He was a lifelong resident of Greenfield.
In his earlier years, he was employed for Wilson’s, Boston and Maine railroad and for his father, E. Pete Chevalier Painting Contractor. The job he enjoyed the most and was the most proud of was that of a Greenfield Firefighter where he spent 28 years of his life until he retired in 1990.
Paul served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Firefighters Association.
Paul was an avid sports fan, especially the Red Sox and Patriots. He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to the Maine seacoast where many vacations were spent.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, the former Mary A. Calkins, his mother, Evelyn of Greenfield, two sisters, Jeannette “Tootsie” Wallace and her husband Bruce of Greenfield and Renee Flanagan and her husband John of Merrimack, N.H., six nieces, Karen Lumibao, Kelly Wallace, Donna Montross, Susan Lekatsos, Katie Pettit and Maureen Calkins and eight nephews, Jason and Michael Wallace, Gregory, Bill and Jonathan Burdick and William, Burton and Mark Calkins who was also a caregiver. Also, he leaves his caregivers and loyal friends, Jan Calkins and Dagmara and many relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Chevalier and a sister, Marie Burdick and by two nephews, Tim Burdick and Shawn Flanagan and a niece Tracy Burdick.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 221 Federal St., with the Rev. Timothy J. Campoli, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
At the request of the deceased there are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenfield Fire Dept., in care of Gift Account, 412 Main St., Greenfield MA 01301, Hospice of Franklin County, 329 Conway St., Suite 2, Greenfield MA 01301 or to Blessed Sacrament Church, 182 High St., Greenfield MA 01301.
